This group of solutions consists of a wide and versatile range of products, which makes it possible to have an impact on many and diverse application sectors. Some of them are of vital importance in the economy, such as the textile, paper, cardboard, latex, cork, paints, inks and food sectors. Concentrol is in constant research processes to try to find<strong> the <\/strong><\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">best possible solution for clients<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">. In the study presented below, the company compared the hydrophobic behaviour of paraffin wax emulsions from two of its reference products with a product from a competitor.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Wax Emulsions<\/h3>\n<p><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Wax emulsions<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> are stable mixtures of one or more waxes in water. Waxes can be natural or synthetic. According to the nature of the emulsifying system, they are classified as ionic, non-anionic and cationic, although you can also use a mixture of emulsifiers. We know that aqueous formulations are complex and therefore these additives are free of organic solvents (water-based). Wax emulsions are used as industrial additives for <\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">paints, inks and varnishes<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">, among others. They can be used in formulations of floor treatment products, wood finishes, car care products, paper, paints and coatings, inks and varnishes, fiberglass, textiles, home use, lubricants, and mold release agents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Wax emulsions are offered in the form of fluids to facilitate their use, dosage and incorporation for the greater convenience of clients.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/concentrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Fotolia_110279839-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-162557 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/concentrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Fotolia_110279839-1-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"404\" height=\"238\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">These products allow us to achieve properties of <\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">softness, matt or glossy effect, anti-slip effect, scratch resistance, waterproofing and hardness<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><strong>.<\/strong> They modify the surface finish to <\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">improve and protect<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> the <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">appearance <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">at the interface between the coating and the outside world. The penetration of water through wall spaces, either by prolonged direct contact or due to humidity, can significantly affect the durability of walls causing structural damage and\/or mold appearance, apart from being unhealthy, annoying and unsightly. The use of wax emulsions<\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> in paints to increase water repellence<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> is a very common practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The emulsions mentioned below are designed to guarantee the <\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">best waterproofing performance<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">. They are characterized by an excellent water barrier effect and great covering capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Hydrophobicity Study<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The present study compares the hydrophobic behaviour of Emultrol CM-2655 E and CM-2469 SPL paraffin wax emulsions with a product from a competitor (<\/span><em><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">see Table 1 &#8211; Characteristics of the emulsions to compare<\/span><\/em><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><em>)<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/concentrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-162575\" src=\"https:\/\/concentrol.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties-1024x183.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"840\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hosting175685eu-cp704.wordpresstemporal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties-1024x183.png 1024w, https:\/\/hosting175685eu-cp704.wordpresstemporal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties-300x54.png 300w, https:\/\/hosting175685eu-cp704.wordpresstemporal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties-768x137.png 768w, https:\/\/hosting175685eu-cp704.wordpresstemporal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties-350x63.png 350w, https:\/\/hosting175685eu-cp704.wordpresstemporal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/02\/Wax-Emulsions-properties.png 1310w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 840px) 100vw, 840px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Firstly, for the evaluation of the hydrophobic behaviour of each product, a layer of each of the emulsions is applied (30 \u03bcm wet) on paper and allowed to dry completely (minimum 12 h at room temperature). Next, a drop of water is dropped on top of this layer, in order to observe the wetting angle (<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">see Figure 1<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Results<\/h3>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">The results obtained show that the drops on top of the Emultrol <\/span><strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">CM-2655 E<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"> and <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">EMULTROL CM-2469<\/span><\/strong><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\"><strong> SPL<\/strong> products exhibit a higher contact angle than the drop on top of the product from a competitor. This behaviour, called the lotus effect, demonstrates superior hydrophobicity in the former two products compared to the latter.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">In addition, the behaviour of these drops was evaluated for a few minutes. In <\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">Figure 2<\/span><span class=\"OYPEnA font-feature-liga-off font-feature-clig-off font-feature-calt-off text-decoration-none text-strikethrough-none\">, it is observed how over time, the drop of water on top of the competitor\u2019s product is absorbed on the paper, indicating a clear re-emulsion of the product.
