With the support of ACCIÓ’s Green Voucher, Concentrol has carried out a strategic project aimed at strengthening the resilience of its facilities to the effects of climate change and promoting more sustainable water management.
The project involved a technological assessment of the company’s entire water cycle to identify opportunities to improve water efficiency, reduce reliance on external water resources and strengthen its ability to adapt to potential drought conditions.
Assessment of the entire water cycle
The study examined water consumption across the facilities, the operation of the industrial wastewater treatment plant (IWWTP), the existing treatment systems and the potential for internal water reuse.
It also included an assessment of climate-related risks and vulnerabilities associated with the future availability of water resources.
Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan
Based on the findings, a Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan was developed. It sets out measures to optimise wastewater treatment, improve effluent quality and facilitate water reclamation and reuse within industrial processes.
The measures assessed include:
- Optimising the existing wastewater treatment plant.
- Incorporating advanced biological treatment technologies.
- Implementing membrane-based water reclamation systems for non-critical internal uses.
This study reflects Concentrol’s commitment to sustainability and continuous improvement. By promoting more efficient water management, the company continues to move towards a more resilient industrial model, better prepared to address the challenges posed by climate change and the increasing pressure on natural resources.
